South West Community Builds has been set up and is run by husband and wife team Paul and Charlotte Bearham from Chacewater, nr Truro, Cornwall.
Paul has been involved with new builds and renovation since he bought his first property at 19 years old. He has renovated several properties and has project managed both residential and commercial community builds. He describes his hobby as environmental and sustainable design. He is a great believer in solutions rather than problems and reducing carbon footprints of community buildings is fundamental not only for the planet but for it’s long term financial future by reducing the ever increasing energy costs.
Paul is interesting is various sports including bowling for Chacewater and water sports like kayaking. Paul is a big rugby fan as a season ticket holder for the Cornish Pirates. He is passionate about working with community volunteers as he is involved, as a volunteer himself, with organisations in the village he lives in. He is involved with Chacewater Projects where he organises the firework firing team as well as installing the outdoor Christmas decorations. Paul has been a member of Chacewater Parish Council and this has helped him to keep up to date with the latest planning legislation along with being a lead for the emerging Local Neighbourhood Development Plan.
Paul was in education for 16 years before leaving to concentrate on South West Community Builds full time.
Charlotte is currently the part time Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer for Chacewater Parish Council and also is heavily involved with the community. She is an active member of Chacewater Players and the village Parent and Toddler Group. She has experience in fund raising and administration – you will always get though on the phone to a friendly voice or email and she will be in the office and out meeting the community helping South West Community Builds understand your project. Charlotte also has a good understanding of eco construction after helping Paul build their family home from the ground up and shares the same passion for eco friendly credentials as Paul does.
Charlotte and Paul have two children together, Alfie and Harvey, and a dog called Holly.
As a family unit being heavily involved in our local community as volunteers ourselves we understand the pressures and difficulties communities can face to keep a project afloat when volunteers are using all their spare time to help progress the project along.
Please feel free to contact us to discuss any aspects of your project and how South West Community Builds could help your community – we’d love to hear from you.
